Dr. Ravee Raghavan, born in Malaysia on February 17, 1945 is a certified 8th Dan in Mabuni-Ha Shitoryu Karate and the World Karate Federation (2000). He began studying Shitoryu Karate in Malaysia in 1965 under Sensei Y. Ishikawa. He holds a Ph.D in Political Science from Rutgers University in New Jersey, USA (1975), and has also pursued graduate studies in Sociology at Sorbonne University of Paris, France.
Dr. Raghavan has worked in academic and administrative positions at the University of Malaya (Malaysia), Rutgers the State University of New Jersey, USA, and the state government of New Jersey. He holds the unique distinction of having coached 3 national karate teams for World Karate Federation competitions: Malaysia-1972/WUKO 2; USA-1982/WUKO 6; and Puerto Rico from 1990 to 1995. He is also a founding member of the World Karate Federation (formerly WUKO) in 1972, Paris France. He has produced many national and international kumite champions, including wins in the
3rd Asian-Pacific Shito-Kai Invitationals held in Singapore (1987), and multiple-year wins at the prestigious Dutch Open Chamionships.
Dr. Raghavan is the principal author of the only book on the World Karate Federation/WKF titled "History, Sociology, Politics of the WKF & EuroKumite" (2009). His writings have also been published in many academic publications in Sociology and Political Science worldwide. He is fluent in English, French, Malay and Spanish. After 26 years residing in Somerset New Jersey, USA, he moved to Puerto Rico where he completed the construction of his IMSKA headquarters dojo, in Cidra, near San Juan. Dr. Raghavan has many accomplished karate students in the USA, Puerto Rico, India and Scotland who are affiliated with his organization the International Mabuni Ha Shito Ryu Karate Assocoation.
